1. Prehen House
Prehen House is one of the North West’s most historic buildings. Situated next to the famous woods, it commands stunning views of Derry, the river Foyle and the hills beyond. Prehen is intimately linked with the history of Derry. Records reveal that it was inhabited by 1640; in 1738 the Knox family began their great association with Prehen when Andrew Knox, the MP for Donegal married Honoria Tomkins, the Prehen heiress
2. St Columb’s cathedral
Dominating the skyline on all approaches to the city of Londonderry is Saint Columbs Cathedral, which has stood on its prominent site inside the famous walls of Derry since 1633. Dedicated to the name of Saint Columba (Columb) who established a Christian settlement here in the sixth century. The historic cathedral has a small museum with pictures and artefacts open daily to visitors. The Cathedral has many fine stained glass windows, regimental flags, memorials and a large collection of historical items from the time of the siege.

5. The Guildhall
Located in the heart of the city, but just outside the walls, it dates from 1887. The original building, named in honour of the London guilds, cost £19,000 to build and was officially opened in 1890 as the administrative centre of the Londonderry Corporation. In 1908 it was razed to the ground. The building stands on land reclaimed from the River Foyle. The Guildhall houses Mayors Office and council chamber. The red sandstone building is of neo-gothic architecture; with Tudor overtones. In 1972, the Guildhall was destroyed by a number of bomb attacks and carefully restored and reopened in 1978. The interior houses some of the finest examples of stained glass windows in Ireland with many having been restored using the original watercolour designs. The council chamber on the ground floor is the seat of Derry City Council.

7. Wellbrook Beetling Mill
Wellbrook is nestled in an idyllic wooded valley. As you come over the hill and see the river, the mill, its water wheel and traditional cottage, it looks as if nothing could disturb the tranquillity. But it is not always so quiet! If you come to the mill when there is flax pulling you will find a hive of industry and when the beetling engines are running their thunder fills the valley
8. The Amelia Earhart Centre
The centre was erected to commemorate the unexpected landing of Amelia Earhart on her historic solo flight across the Atlantic on 21 May, 1932. A museum guide is available for a tour of the centre, who will show you where Amelia Earhart landed and readily answer any questions concerning the event. The centre is located in the north of the city, in Ballyarnett Country Park

10. Ulster American folk and transport museum
The development of the Museum’s town, Ballycultra, offers opportunities to experience at first hand a real sense of life in the early 1900s. Costumed visitor guides, working buildings and exhibits, as well as the chance to touch, to hear and to do, bring our stories to life. Skills once commonly practised, such as lace-making, sampler making, spinning, weaving, wood turning and forge work are demonstrated and taught in the open air Museum.
