Antrim Coast

Antrim Coast

  • Ballycastle - A friendly town with a pleasant beach overlooking Fair Head and Rathlin Island off the coast of Northern Ireland. Ballycastle is known for its pubs and impromptu traditional music sessions.

  • Giants Causeway - On an 80 miles stretch of coastline the Giants Causeway is an amazing sight with more than 40,000 hexagonal stone columns rising from the waves. It is easy to understand how so much rich mythology came from the Ulster area. Be sure to visit the visitor center.

  • Glenariff - Also known as Queens of the Glens, Glenariff is picturesque with its gushing waterfalls, and scenic path skirting the sheer sides of a plunging gorge.

  • Old Bushmills Distillery - Established in 1608, Bushmills is the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world. Enjoy a guided tour and whiskey- tasting session.

  • Rathlin Island – Amidst the rugged landscape of this isolated island, you can let your mind wander and discover a tranquillity and beauty that is so unexpected. The ferry to Rathlin Island travels just six miles across the "Sea of Moyle". This island is six miles long, one mile wide, "L" shaped and home to a small population of around seventy people.

  • Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge – A short coastal footpath leads to Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. On the way, there are wonderful vantage points to stop and take in the natural beauty. The geology, flora and fauna have won Carrick-a-Rede recognition as an area of special scientific interest. Fulmars, kittiwakes, guillemots and razorbills breed on the islands close to the rope bridge. Of course, Carrick-a-Rede also boasts an exhilarating rope bridge experience. Traditionally fishermen erected the bridge to Carrick-a-Rede Island over a 23m-deep and 20m-wide chasm to check their salmon nets. Today visitors are drawn here simply to take the rope bridge challenge.

  • Joey Dunlop Memorial Garden – Joey Dunlop, born in Ballymoney in 1952, was affectionately known to motorcycle racing fans and competitors alike as, King of the Roads and Yer Maun. Through his courage and ambition he became one of the most successful riders of all time.

  • Glenarm Castle Estate and Walled Gardens – The Walled Garden situated in the grounds of Glenarm Castle is one of Ireland’s oldest walled gardens dating from the 18th century. Beautiful in all seasons, the Walled Garden and Tea Room are open from May until the end of September, when the garden is still rich with displays of herbaceous plants.

  • Mussenden Temple – Perilously close to the edge of a sheer drop stands this beautiful 18th Century folly, originally inspired by the Tivoli Temple of Vesta. It is a much photographed landmark built close to the extensive gardens, grounds and forest of the ruined Downhill Castle.

  • Dunluce Castle – is sited dramatically close to the edge of a headland, along the North Antrim coast. Surrounded by jaw dropping coastal scenery, this medieval castle stands where an early Irish fort was once built and where its history can be traced back to early Christians and Vikings. Visit and take a peek at medieval Irish life.
